RIP Larry Hagman
I'm saddened by the death of Larry Hagman.

I am old enough to have watched I Dream of Jeannie when it originally aired. In retrospect, it was goofy and ridiculous. (Or maybe we knew it was when it was on.)  But none of that mattered because it aired in the era of the Addams Family, Bewitched, and the Munsters. More importantly (to me at least) Tony Nelson was my first ever TV crush. I was totally, madly in love with him! Like any second grader would be.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that he wore a uniform!! Or not.

I also had a huge, general crush on all astronauts. I don't know if he's the reason I love astronauts or if I was in love with him because he was an astronaut. Chicken? Egg?

I would have aspired to be an astronaut but 1) I'm a girl and they weren't allowed, 2) I have the world's worst vertigo, and 3) I am terrible at math. So astronaut was out.

Flash forward from second grade to junior year in college and my beloved Tony Nelson turned into the evil, greedy, nasty JR Ewing! OMG.

DALLAS_1

To those who didn't experience the "Who shot JR?" phenomenon first hand, it's hard to describe. Dallas was the first really successful prime time TV show that was serialized rather than purely episodic. And for JR to be shot at the end of the season was unprecedented and unbelievable! This was, obviously, before Al Gore invented the interwebs so we had to wait all summer to find out who did it!! Ah- the "good ole days."

My thoughts will be with his family, those related to him by blood and those connected by a fondness for the joy he brought to us all.

Where I didn't watch it when it first aired I did watch it as a child. (Along with Bewitched, The Munsters, The Addams Family, The Flying Nun, Happy Days, Mork and Mindy, Laverne and Shirley... and shutting up now.)

And even though I swore I Shot JR (OK, so it annoyed me that I had to watch it with my mom. I had to wait for it to go off before I could see Miami Vice.) and the ending ticked me off and has me worried about which yahoo is going to another dream stunt! (I really fear that is how they may end Supernatural.)

Still, he was a good actor and I will miss my fellow Texan greatly. Though I know I will always remember visiting the Ranch where Dallas was shot for a Chili cook-off.

That would have been very cool to visit "South Fork." We all wanted to see it when the show was on!

TV was something else back then, wasn't it?

Losing Larry Hagman is the end of an era. May he rest in peace.

Oh, so with you! I adored I Dream of Jeannie and he was so handsome in his uniform! And Dallas.. well, yeah, that was one of those had to be watched' shows back then, wasn't it?

He will be missed. *hugs*

PS: Also, I wanted to be an astronaut too, but it wasn't really likely for a girl from NZ either.

I was so in love with him! It's still as clear as day how much I wanted to marry him. I guess that's what I wanted. I just knew he was the one for me!

I'm glad I'm not the only failed astronaut wanna-be! I still have a crush on all astronauts and am very sad that they space program has almost shut down!

It is a sad thing. Even though I was born after all those shows ended, I still grew up watching them because they were something I could share with my parents. He was a wonderful actor and he will be missed by a lot of people, I am sure.

My first real crush too. In grade six when we got cable and it was in the classics channel. Never saw Dallas. He will always be Major Nelson to me.

I think he was my first real crush as well. They are still playing the re runs of I Dream Of Jeannie here. So sad to hear of his passing.

I loved him with every passion a second grader could! I don't get many crushes on TV people but he was my first and my deepest! Captain Kirk was a very close second.

May Tony Nelson rest in peace.
