I am sooooooo frustrated!!!
It's a good thing that next week is spring break from school. Because I am nearly at my wit's end. (Not that it was an especially long trip to get there!)

One of the classes I'm taking this semester is 3D modeling. The software we use is made by Autodesk, which is the same company that makes AutoCad. If you've ever heard anything about AutoCad, it's probably that it's very difficult to use. I'm here to tell you - their 3dsMax software is no walk in the park either.

We don't have a textbook for the class and we are learning to use the software by following the tutorials. The same tutorials our instructor is using to learn it while we are!

At any rate, we can get the software for free because we are students. I had resisted downloading it but I've gotten behind in 3d modeling class and thought "okay - I'll see if I can catch up at home." It took the software, no lie, an hour and a half to download. It's huge. I get that. But OMG.

Once it finally finally downloaded, I opened my starfighter project. We use pictures of objects and make 3d versions of them. Well, guess what? The version of 3dsMax I downloaded doesn't have the starfighter picture included. So I downloaded the supplemental tutorials, which took another half an hour. STILL no star fighter!!! I'm downloading the second set of tutorials, hoping the starfighter will be in those files.

The pictures we use to base our 3d objects on are background files. They aren't part of our modeling files - if that makes sense. So when I saved my 3d starfighter, the background doesn't save. If I can't find a version of the starfigther in the latest tutorials I downloaded, I'm going to have to ask my instructor how to save the background to my flash drive. I'm not even sure you can do that. But if it's a jpeg or some other type of image, I should be able to save it, right?

It might not be so bad but all of these programs have to run on PCs. I am a Mac lover and being forced to use my PC instead makes it that much harder for me. Why wouldn't a graphics program like 3dsMax run on my Mac? That would make my life too easy, I guess.

All this 3d frustration is on top of C# which you know is the bane of my existence, awake and asleep! Yes, I'm behind in that class too. WHY did I think going back to school was a good idea?????

You'll get past this rough spot.

Oh, ugh--the ONLY thing I've ever heard about AutoCad is what a pain it is, so I can only imagine. :(

Going back to school is hard, but it's so worth it! It'll be fabulous when it's done!

Hang in there!

I do firmly believe that there is nothing you can't do! Absolutely absolutely. I know that there will be a great many things that you don't want to do and will not be easy to do, but I know that you can do them!!!

*hugs* Get through this week and next week you can dedicate to excessive porn.
