Calm down, please!!
Against my better judgement, I watched the now infamous interview of Scott Caan on that woman's show. I have no idea who that woman is or what she did to deserve her own talk show but you can be certain I won't be watching it - ever again. She's just strange!

Scott came across as charming, and self-effasive, and real. Anyone who watches Hawaii Five-0 knows he doesn't like living in Hawaii. This is not news. Nor is it controversial. I lived in New Jersey for 20 years and it never became HOME. It's not where I was from. That's nothing against NJ - it's just the way things are. No place is just like home.

Scott didn't bring up the crystal meth. She did. Okay. They have a problem with it there. Who doesn't?

He talked about surfing without getting his hair wet. He talked about coming out to talk to her without any clothes because his button jumped ship. She talked about how he lived in the Playboy mansion so he was used to being around naked women. AND he said his girlfriend wants to have a threesome with that Chelsea woman.

What part of TAKE A CHILL are the haters not getting??? This is a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing. And now there's apparently a petition to remove Scott from the show? Really?

I know - let's remove Alex for having the "bad judgement" of hurting his shoulder and getting hooked on prescription pills!! Let's fire Grace Park for preferring Toronto to Hawaii and choosing not to be in the show full time. Fire them all! That'll teach them to be human beings with thoughts and feelings and opinions. Daniel Dae Kim can be the only one on the show - he's so far the only one "without sin."

Bottom line - CALM DOWN!!! Scott was not advocating the overthrow of the government or suggesting that Hawaii shouldn't be a state. He expressed his opinions. And was utterly charming while he did it. That woman, on the other hand, has no business having her own talk show. They're just giving them away now, aren't they?

Cautionary note: You are welcome to express your opinion just like Scott did. But if you are ugly or abusive or unkind, I will delete your comment. Then I will have you fired from the show.

Wow. Just wow.
Do these people realize that this guy is an actor? Nothing else. Nothing more. If you're using him for a role model, you're in trouble. I am not saying that Scott Caan is a bad guy. Quite the opposite. I'm just saying he's a normal human being who does a job. So he screws up. So what?

I always worry about people who can't seem to figure out that actors are just people who are just doing a job. They need to look carefully at the people they make heros of. And they need to realize that half of what was said was crap, because that's what actors do: they talk crap. It gives them a nice bit of publicity, and it gives them some sort of privacy.

And dealing with an idiot like that with grace ain't easy.

They didn't hire him because he loved Hawai'i. They hired him because he was a good actor who fit the role well. Scott is not Danny. Danny is a fictitious character. Scott is an actor, whom none of us know. Or at least I don't, anyway. And have no desire to do so. I just want to watch him be pretty and funny on the screen, like he's being paid to be.

These people need to get a real life. But that's so true of so many, many people.

Yes, many people do need to get a real life! You are so right about that!

Thank you for your level-headed response. This whole "controversy" is astounding to me. Slow news week, clearly!!

I agree with everything you said.

I read on twitter that he was hurt and upset by the backlash he's gotten...and he's issued an apology. Not holding my breath for the pot stirers of this mess to apologize any time soon for their part in all this.

You're preaching to the choir here!

Yes, people need to calm down. I cannot believe how hateful they are being!

IMO HNN--esp. Tanya Boyd Joaquin--have made things worse. Tanya is on Facebook egging people on.

Would it have killed her to say, "We understand Scott Caan is homesick, it must be tough to have to work so far away from home....we hope he can enjoy what our lovely state has to offer when he's away from home....???"
Are 6 dogs too many?tkeylasunset on January 27th, 2013 03:32 am (UTC)
I read that she is making things worse but I didn't bother trying to find out what she was doing. She certainly cozies up to them when the show is ready to come back on. See if that happens at the beginning of next season!

Goodness. What a lot of upsetment over nothing!

The difference between Scott and Alex and Grace is that he says whatever he feels good or bad. Does that make Alex and Grace less Real? I don't think so.

The biggest problem Scott has is that he has no brain to mouth filter and he hates interviews.

Is that wrong? Not at all, but sometimes it's going to start shit like this.

And that stupid woman from HNN who does the start of season interviews with them and is completely in appropriate with everything she says to any of them? She really shouldn't be on air, let alone stirring the pot.

Totally agree. It wasn't bad enough for HNN to sensationalize it; she had to go egg on people from her personal FB page.

So, I was curious about what you were ranting about and watched the video and read people's 'reactions'. Wow, what a bunch of twats.

When Jensen said that he missed being in Texas and hated the cold up in Canada... you didn't hear Canadians yelling at him for his reaction. I mean I am sure there was some, but no where near this reaction.

I'm not a fan, but even I could tell that he was not insulting Hawaii. He says it's too slow for him, nothing wrong with that. He wasn't saying the people were slow or in any way mentally challenged.

As for the rest of the interview... he was being a man and giving typical male responses. Yeah, I know, no, uncomfortable laugh, reluctant agreeing... have they spent no time in the presence of a man not trying to get into their pants? Geezs they are reaction I get from my husband when we talk on the phone. *rolls eyes*

The chick though... there is where all the rude comments came from. People need to point their anger at the proper target. She should be fired, not him and this is coming from someone who does not even watch the damned show! So, I am not invested in keeping him, but I do know the difference between right and wrong.
Are 6 dogs too many?tkeylasunset on January 27th, 2013 03:36 am (UTC)
You are too smart!! Yes - channel the anger at the rightful target - HER not him!! Thank you!

People really need to calm down about this interview. Were they watching it at all? Right from the beginning of the clip you can see how uncomfortable he is talking to her, in fact the only time he seemed comfortable was the brief moment when he mentioned his girlfriend deserving the purple heart. The rest of the time he was just going with the "smile and nod" thing while the host (who I am told is a very controversal stand up comic known for her outragous and inappropriate jokes) was talking about drugs and the playboy mansion.

Honestly, if people need to be upset over what was said they need to upset with the host and the producers of her show who let her say things like this on the air. Scott never said anything hateful during the clip I saw. the most he said was that Hawaii was just too laid back for his taste after growing up in LA. Which is understandable. You think someone raised in Hawaii is going to be comfortable suddenly living in a fast paced city like LA? No. No one is. So the Haters need to calm down.
Are 6 dogs too many?tkeylasunset on January 27th, 2013 03:37 am (UTC)
Yes, the haters do need to calm down and get over themselves!!!

Thank you! That woman is something special, isn't she? I got no time for someone like that!!!

I agree with the entirety of your post--I can't believe there is a petition going around to have Scott fired from the show because he prefers to live in LA. What a bunch of kooks!
dreamwind83: OMG! WTF!dreamwind83 on January 27th, 2013 05:21 am (UTC)
I know, right? So by their logic if they have to move to a state on the mainland and they make a public statement that they would rather be living in their Home state, then they should be fired from their job. If that was a law or people could actually get fired for that I am sure that a lot of us would be getting fired regularly. My Mother certainly would have been fired when she was basically forced to move to Miami for a year for her job, while the rest of her family remained on the west coast.

Hi, Tkeyla : )

I said this on Powrhug's LJ, but I'm going to say it again here. Scott is a big city boy who has been placed in a small town environment, and once you remove Honolulu from the equation, Hawaii really is a small town. I was raised in rural north Georgia on a beef cattle farm, and I have no doubt that Scott would probably HATE my hometown too. It is very slow paced and there aren't a lot of things to do culturally speaking. I've brought friends from the city home with me to visit. They found it quaint at first, and then, they are like "Get me out of here!!!" There is no sin in not wanting to live in a small town environment. Conversely, there is no harm in not wanting to live in a big city environment either. I would hate that. When I worked in the biomedical research department of a large university, I chose a long commute each day so I could live in the country. I wanted the paycheck and prestige of working at this university, but I didn't want to live in the city; so, I made a choice as many of us have to do sooner or later. Scott has chosen to live and work in Hawaii for the paycheck that H50 will provide him, and even though, he doesn't enjoy living there he wants the freedom to finance his more artistic endeavors later in life. Anyone in fandom knows this. He has been upfront about it from the beginning. My question is why don't the Hawaiian people know this? Where have they been the last 3 years?!! This is no secret.

I don't think Scott deserves this vehement attitude directed towards him for expressing his opinion. I do wish he would learn how to balance his forthrightness with a little tact so the crazies of the world don't attack him like this, and maybe this experience has taught him to curb his tongue a bit in these interviews. That being said, I would rather see an actor be honest than lie through his teeth and pretend he enjoys a place when he doesn't.

I think the petition circulating demanding Scott's resignation or firing from H50 is just ridiculous, and I hope CBS and the H50 PTB give it the attention it deserves which is none.

Also, if I see one more comment attacking Scott for his height I am going to scream. I will never understand how anyone can criticize someone for their height considering none of us have any control over this. Sheesh!!! : (

I also think it beyond rude for people who run Scott Caan fan pages to be attacked by these people. *growls*

Lastly, I had never heard of Chelsea (whatever her last name is), and I have no intention of watching her again. I found her interviewing style to be annoying, and I like how you call her "That woman" in your entry. It made me chuckle every time I read it. ; )

Edit: Kudos for the MacBeth reference. I LOVE that and agree with you wholeheartedly!!! : )

Take care!!! : )

You are 100% correct! I was raised in NC and living in NJ just wasn't for me. I was soooo happy to get back home where people were like me!! "There is no place like home." Dorothy had the secret the entire time. That's what people are refusing to acknowledge in this whole kerfuffle.

I hated that woman the entire 5+ minutes of the interview. Why did he go on it? Because his girlfriend wanted him to? That confuses me too but it's hardly important.

And he's being attacked for his genetics? Like he chose to be shorter than average? OMG. I don't even have words for that.

Shakespeare for the win!!!

Thank you for expressing this so eloquently - far better than I did.

get some perspective
I know how Scott feels. I was born in a large city and have lived in a small village for over fifteen years. Nothing against the place, it's picture card pretty and the neighbours are great... but it is not, and never will be, HOME.

Give Scott a break and stop trying to pull him apart for being honest. Would they have been happier if he had lied? The man is there to do a job, which he does brilliantly, and in that respect he is no different from any one else who is in the position of having to go where the job takes them. It doesn't matter if that is in the State of Hawaii or Little Hampton in the UK. He just sounds a little homesick, and has no filter between his brain and his mouth when it comes to saying it. I personally admire his honesty.

Re: get some perspective
It's no secret Scott doesn't enjoy living in Hawaii. He's been upfront about it the entire time. It isn't home. That's not a sin.

I too was misplaced for a long time - living in NJ was fine but it was never HOME! So I sympathize with him, and with you.

He's always been honest with his feelings. That is to be admired, not criticized.

this too shall pass.

Thank you for writing this.
I haven´t watched the interview, but I read the appology and the comments there and wow......poor Scott for opening his mouth in the first place.
I love Hawaii Five-0 and I love Scott, and someone trying to get him fired is just to stupid......
I´ve seen and read other interviews with him and it seems that he gives the same answers...so what if he doesn´t love staying on Hawaii...Jared and Jensen hates the cold in Canada but they are filming season 8 of Supernatural there, so you go where your job takes you...you don´t have to love it....
Why can´t people see him for all the great things he does? The Surfers Healing and helping kids?
And he is a great actor, so let him act and leave him alone.
Doesn´t make much sense here, sorry...;)
Are 6 dogs too many?tkeylasunset on January 27th, 2013 04:32 pm (UTC)
The interview is incredibly stupid. Because that woman has no business having her own forum. Who the hell is she that she deserves a talk show??? Don't bother watching it unless you like awkwardness and uncomfortable body language.

Scott has always been honest about not liking Hawaii. This is not news. that's why the extreme reaction to this video is taking me by surprise. He's doing his job and doing it expertly. Why isn't that enough?

No - you made perfect sense. Thank you for sharing your view on this!

Are 6 dogs too many?tkeylasunset on January 27th, 2013 04:33 pm (UTC)
I don't think it was ever stated officially that she prefers to be "part time." But if you notice, she's in the show less this season. I think I read on tumblr that she'd requested less work hours so she could spend more time at home.
lou_clou_c on January 27th, 2013 04:08 pm (UTC)
I love Hawaii. So I am biased. But my 'city' has 4mil people. I didn't like LA at.all. I like how Hawaii feels like here but with American benefits *coughstarbucksanddarkchocolatem&mscough*

I want to live there but I can totally see how a city kid would hate it. Once you leave honolulu it's very laid back and things ARE slow. It's an island, where do you have to be in such a hurry? But if that's not what you're used to it'd be very frustrating. Me, I'm used to my colonial backwater with bad service and two Starbucks in the whole city. </p>

I don't suggest Scott come to Australia he will hate it here haha.

P.s. I never found anything Chelsea handler said to be remotely funny and this was no exception. She comes off as rude and entitled. Why is nobody mad at her?!

Are 6 dogs too many?tkeylasunset on January 27th, 2013 04:35 pm (UTC)
Every place has its pluses and minuses. that's a part of life. But HOME is the only place you are ever truly at home. That's human nature! I think we are like salmon like that. We have to eventually return to our spawning ground to feel completely comfortable.

I didn't find that woman funny or charming or deserving of her own show. You are right - the anger should be directed at her. The petitions should be to get rid of her waste of a show.

Thank you for sharing your views. They were helpful to understanding his thought processes!

Yes, I agree. How is that woman allowed to even have a show??? What does she bring to the table except ugly comments?

It will all blow over. It's too stupid to hold the press's attention for long.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
