Things You Discover When You Have Insomnia
Last night, I was doing my 3D programming way too late. I should have known not to do it up until the minute I went to bed.

Way back when, I had a Nintendo and loved to play Tetris. But I couldn’t play it too close to bedtime because it would inevitably keep me awake. It wires a part of my brain that I generally use a lot less – having no sense of spatial relationships. Theoretically, I should suck at Tetris but I don’t.

The same thing happened last night. I couldn’t get my brain to shut down so I could sleep. In my insomnia, I discovered several very unimportant things which I am naturally going to share with you!

Sister Christian by Night Ranger is apparently about prostitution. Huh. Who knew?
Kashmir by Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite songs, ever. We even named our Newfoundland Kashmir after the song. But the song doesn’t make sense. What is it about? As many times as I’ve listened to it, I still have no idea.
• Apparently Rachel was pregnant with Grace for approximately 13 months. In the 9/11 episode, Danny and Rachel had recently found out they were having a baby. Danny had a picture of the sonogram so Rachel had to have been about 6 weeks along, right? But in the second episode of the show, Grace tells Danno she wants a pink squishy football for her birthday. The second episode would have been a couple of weeks at most after John McGarrett was murdered. We know he was killed in September (although now I can’t find a screencap of his tombstone.)
• Not sleeping makes concentrating at school much more difficult. Today is my day to work in the tutoring center but I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to tutor anyone on anything.

What have you learned recently that you need/want to share?

I love Tetris!!! I'm pretty decent at spacial relations as well, but I do find that when I've been playing Tetris and then I start reading, I want to take words and fold them to fit along the right hand margin of the 'page'. I actually do play on my iPod in bed.

I have learned that there is no limit to ignorance. That's not news is it?

Tetris rules!!

You're right. There is no limit to ignorance. Nope - not news. I just wanted to know how old she was when the show started!

Sister Christian always had an extra level of creepiness when I heard one of the members had written it for or about his sister. Something like that, it's been along time since at VH1 show that I most likely watched on my own sleepless night(s)

Great you just had to do the thing with Graces b-day.

Well let me toss this to you. What if that wasn't Grace, what if they were going to have a baby and Rachael lost it because of Danny and he was so out of pocket she thought he was in the towers? We can plot twist that into the ground

And why bring that up TODAY of all days?

Although I can't understand why writers don't keep character time lines! Like post some butcher paper on the wall!
Danny DOB---Shit that happened---more shit---meets Steve-----(has hot sex with Steve--- stuff like that. It's not like us superfans are not going to find out and rub your nose in it, like the bad bad writer you are.

OMG. He wrote it about his sister??? EWWWW...

I'm sorry I brought up Grace's BD. I just wanted to know how old she was. Then...you know.

I like the idea of butcher paper on the wall. I have some I can loan them!

the thing with the show is, unless they specifically say how much time has passed, we are to assume that it's been a week or two at the most. I mean with the landmark episodes like the pilot, the holiday episode or Steve's birthday episode, the Pro Bowl episode and the finales (when the say it's a week later (season 1 to season 2) or seconds later (season 2 to season 3 and season 3 to season 4), we don't know how much time has gone by.

I checked the site that I was looking at screencaps at and couldn't find a one of the graveside marker at the cemetery so I can' help, but here (http://hawaiifiveo.wikia.com/wiki/John_McGarrett) it says September 20, 2010 is when he was taken hostage (and obviously killed)

I know "show time" is fluid but her birthday was definitely after John was killed, right? I mean, it was the second episode. So we weren't supposed to think it was, like, July, were we? The high school was playing football so it had to be after school started.

If John was killed, Sept 20, 2010 and Grace was having a birthday it does not compute!

Oh well. We don't watch for the plot anyway!!!

Kids always talk about what they want for their birthday or Christmas and it's months away. Her birthday very well could be before September and she's just letting her Danno.

Kashmir is my favorite Led Zeppelin song as well. I heart Tetris too.

\m/ Internet fistbump of solidarity!!

(Do you know what Kashmir is about? I've tried to figure it out then decided I'd just love it.)

Tetris totally Rules!

I have no clue what the song was about, but it's a cool piece of music and awesome for light shows.

Tetris most definitely Rules!!

What did I learn today....that some people really aren't all that smart. Wait I already knew that. Can you tell it was a long day at work?!

I'm sorry.

I spent all afternoon in the tutoring center. Sadly, a couple of people there need more than tutoring. Like manners. Ah well. We all have our bears to cross, huh?

Hope your week gets better!

What is it with people and not having manners? They think the world revolves around them and you better watch out!

Yes we do!

Hope you have a good week too!

IIRC, Kashmir was written while driving thru a desert, but the desert wasn't in Kashmir, because none of the band had ever been there. (I could be wrong, but I think I read it in Rolling Stone a million years ago.)

I have learned recently that no matter how easy the nail art tutorials look, once the enamel hits my nails, it becomes Abomination not Art.

That makes sense that they would be in the desert.

I know what you mean about nail art. It always looks so simple but it turns into a hot mess!! If you discover the nail art secret, I hope you'll share!
