This semester isn't off to an auspicious start. I apparently decided to take up where I left off before Christmas break, what with the "not uploading my final project" thing and all.

I have two classes on Monday and Wednesday - a game programming class from 12 to 2 on one campus and Mechanical Physics from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on a different campus. The second campus where Physics is taught is actually closer to my house than the campus where most of my classes are held so it's not so bad getting out that late two nights a week. The problem is all that time in between. There is no way I can come home. I know if I do, I'll be tempted not to leave again.

So like any self-respecting American with too much time on their hands, I went to Panera. Which works out because I can eat lunch, have some coffee, and use their free wi-fi. It's about half way between the two campuses so that's convenient.

To my surprise, one of my best friends from when I worked at the school came to the same Panera for lunch!! I hadn't seen him in over a year so we had a lot to catch up on. So much to catch up on, I couldn't get him to stop talking so I could get to class. Yes, it was really my fault but how can you walk out on a friend who only has "two more things to tell you"? I can't. He's an instructor at the college and is, well, socially awkward? Not that we aren't all at some point but he doesn't take subtle hints like "Oh look at the time."

At any rate, I had intended to go to the campus bookstore and buy my Physics textbook right before class. You have to buy the book at the same campus where you take the class. So I couldn't buy the textbook after my first class on the first campus. I knew I'd have plenty of time to get to the second bookstore for the textbook. Besides, the first class meeting is usually "Blah… blah… get your textbook… yadda yadda yadda."

Nope. I should have known that a Physics teacher wouldn't run her Physics class that way. And let me tell you - I made a hell of an impression at the first class meeting:
1. I had to stop for gas or I was going to run out. Plus with it going down to 9 degrees tonight, I couldn't leave my tank practically empty.
2. I got to class five minutes late and missed 10 minutes of her lecture on vectors.
3. I didn't have the textbook so couldn't do the problems she assigned in class to practice what she was teaching.
4. I didn't have a notebook to write the problems down because we don't use paper in our gaming classes AND I planned to buy one at the bookstore.
5. I couldn't find a pencil that would write.
6. I ended up doing the classwork on the back of card stock on which I had drawn my storyboards for animation class.
7. I didn't have a scientific calculator so used my iPhone - thank God it has one. But I have no idea how to use it to figure out the sine and cosine of degrees. Never mind tangents to the -1 power. I couldn't even figure out how to use it to find the square root of a number. I guessed then squared my guess until I got close enough.
8. We had to turn in the problems we did in class. Now I won't remember how to do the problems we're assigned in the book once I buy my book. And they are on card stock with drawings on one side.

Oh My GOD.

On the plus side, I don't know anyone in the Physics class so I'm a little less embarrassed. I'm sure I met the instructor when I worked there but I don't remember her. I doubt she has any idea I used to work there. And my friend (see above) has a degree in Physics. (He teaches Astronomy which is a whole different story.) I told him he was on stand-by to help me understand it.

This semester, I'm also taking Storytelling as an on-line class. It's a requirement of the major and there were no in-seat sections offered. Our first assignment is to write a 500 word short story on the topic of our choice. Would it be wrong to use one of my fanfics - change the names and turn it in? Writing 500 words is no problem. It's keeping it to less than 600 words that I'm going to struggle with!

So that was my day in a nutshell. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings! I have one game programming class where I won't need paper. And I do have a working flashdrive so I'll be fine with that. I start back in the tutoring center tomorrow, where I'll work 1:00 - 6:00 Tuesday and Thursday, and 8 - 2 Fridays.

Do I know how to start a semester off with a bang, or what?

Tomorrow will be just fine, but you do need to get yourself all nice and sheveled first. It's an auspicious start, but I've always taken that kind of thing to mean that I had messed up, and could only get better from there. I find things generally get better when they start out bad.

I'm not sheveled yet. We don't have water because the pipes are frozen. They didn't burst, thankfully. The heat pump can't keep up because it's 9 degrees outside. In North Carolina. What the hell?

So I emailed my instructor and said "No water. Won't be in class."

Yep, this semester is going to be AWESOME!

Love you!

Love you too, hon!

Have you turned on the water so it at least tries? It does help.

Well at least you got over the weird things all in one shot :)

Stay positive--your next class will be awesome :)

Oh, my! So very stressful! But I bet the drawings will be a nice change of pace for her as she's going over the problems. ;-) Best of luck to ya, dear!

(Btw, stay warm! This cold is so crazy!)

Oh my, what a start! I must admit most of what you were saying was Double-Dutch to me, but I got the gist! (including Panera, which I at least worked out was some form of eatery!)

I hope the next Physics class at that campus turns out a little better for you! (and that the friend you met can help you with those problems!)
