#1 - Six Dogs is Six Times the Love
This is my first post in the 100 Things Challenge.

For those of you who don't know, I share one house and six dogs with my sister. We live on a little farm with 10 acres. (That works out to 1.666 acres per dog.)

Our dogs, in order of age, are:

Pudge (my icon for this post): She's a black lab but was clearly the runt of the litter. She only weighs about 60 pounds and is not nearly as big as most full grown labs. Pudge is the undisputed Queen of the house and all who live in it. She loves car rides and jalepeno poppers. She hates corn and anything that is TOO loud! She's not fond of being petted, unless it's on her own terms.

Zumi is next. She's part lab and part Dalmatian although she's almost completely black. When she was a puppy, she was scared of the other dogs and ran away from them. She zoomed here and she zoomed there. That's how she came to be called Zumi. She's still scared of a lot of things and hides from anything that disturbs her. But she loves her mammas and wants to be petted any time she's not hiding from an unknown terror only she can perceive.

Hannah came next. She's an Old English Sheepdog. When we brought her home, the other dogs charged her and she hid under the car and screamed. I've never heard a dog scream before but Hannah did. She quickly adapted and now tries to herd her mammas and the other dogs. If she can't find us, she'll bark so we'll answer. She has to know where we are at all times. She's overweight not because she's eats more than the other dogs but because she is far less active. A life lesson I need to learn from her. She is a total sweetie and loves everybody.

Kashmir was next. She's a Newfoundland. Yes, she's huge. But she is truly a gentle giant. She would never hurt any of the other dogs even though she outweighs them all. She has beautiful soulful eyes that surely know the secrets of the universe. For the rest of the coffee in your cup, she may share them with you.

YoQuera came after Kashmir. She was a rescue dog so we aren't sure what kind she is. She's the smallest of the dogs but may be the feistiest. Her ears stick up straight on her head which makes her look like the Taco Bell dog. She's not a Chihuahua but her face looks a little like one. That's why we call her YoQuera. She is our mighty hunter dog, digging up the yard in search of moles and other underground creatures.

Layla is our puppy. She is also a rescue so we have no idea what she is. What she's made of is loving goofiness. She is fascinated by everything and everybody. And she adores YoQuera to the exclusion of almost all else. If YoQuera isn't close by, Layla has to find her. If YoQuera is outside in the front, I have to call her in so Layla will stop crying. Layla has recently started riding in the car with us and has discovered the joy of the wind in her fur. She's still puppy-enough that she can't stand still which makes having her in the car interesting. But she's learning!

Each dog has special qualities unique only to her. Some people seem to think having 6 dogs is like having a herd - that they just blend in and aren't distinctive. This is completely opposite of what it's like to have 6 loving, silly, by-turns-annoying dogs. This is one of the reasons I've chosen them as the subject of my 100 Things challenge - to try and express how it's possible to love 6 dogs equally!

Thank you!
They are great dogs!!! Loves of my life.

Zumi is a mess! Apparently there is a local brand of goat cheese called Zumi and my BFF said that's how it's spelled. So we gave it to our Zumi!!

They are adorable!! And uniquely... something, as my sister and I always say. Never boring.

Thanks for the comment!

There are days I'd let you come choose one from our "herd"!! Most times, I can't imagine not having them all - everywhere!! It can be hard to walk down the hall in the house when they've all decided to "help."
