How far do you think Steve McGarrett can realistically swim?
3 miles? 5 miles? 10 miles?

Let's say the day is nice and there's no unusual circumstances. Would having him swim 3 to 5 miles be unrealistic? (I need him to swim out to a boat where Kono is being held captive. Not just his morning swim where we all wait breathlessly to watch him emerge.)

If he can swim 3 to 5 miles without too much difficulty, how long would it take? 30 minutes? 45 minutes? An hour? I'll give him flippers and a snorkel if that makes it easier. And he can swim on the surface most of the way.

3 to 5 miles wouldn't be unrealistic for someone of Steve's abilities.

This page gives some rough times. Maybe google open water swimming or BUDs training?

That page was helpful. I'll google open water swimming and see what I find.

Variables to take into account concerning the time. Fitness (super fit duh), how often he swims, type of water being swam in (cause that can make a huge difference), Will he need breaks just to get a good lungful of air (cause of the adrenalin rush), length of breaks if taken.

So I am assuming ocean, that he swims a mile every morning, he is possible NOT keeping his cool.

3-5 Miles (5 is pushing it if he only swims a mile a day.). With a 3 mile swim (with snorkel) he will need one five minute break (1/2 way there) to fully oxygenate his muscles and brain (He does not want to be even remotely light headed when he gets there). For 5 miles 2 breaks at 5-10 minutes. So an hour a mile... just over three to five hours.

If you are looking for a quick rescue might I suggest him using a swimmers propeller? Just a wee thought for a quicker rescue.

(I talk way too much for someone outside of the fandom.... sorry)

You are welcome to comment on any fandom on my page at any time!!!

That swimmers' propeller is very cool. That might help.

I don't think there is enough time for him to swim out to rescue her if the average rate is one mile per hour. That's too slow for my needs. So I may have to go to plan B. Which I will as soon as I make it up!

Thank you!!!

He is Steve the Super SEAL, so I figure he swims all the way around Oahu. Twice, when the weather's good.

Ok, that probably wasn't helpful. :D

It WAS helpful in that it made me laugh! And you are 100% correct. Three times on the weekends. Don't you think?
