For My Mathematical Enabled Friends
I need some help on a story I'm writing, please. It's not a really important plot point but I'm afraid I'll screw it up.

Here's the thing. I have a holding tank that contains approximately 750 gallons of sea (i.e. salt) water. If our heroes who weigh a combined 375 pounds enter the holding tank at the same time, will the water level rise significantly? Significantly in this case is 6 or more inches.

If this question depends on the parameters of the tank, let's say it's a square tank, 82 inches by 82 inches and 50 inches deep. The tank has a capacity of 1000 gallons so it's 3/4 full before our heroes jump in (if that matters.)

What do you think?

When it comes to math, my brain NEVER wants to work!!!

I'm not that great at maths, but water based things I can relate to :)

I doubt the water would rise significantly. It would slightly, but would also change at the amount of movement expended by those occupying the tank.

Hope this helps a bit!

It does help. Because you are saying it would not rise 6 inches when they jumped in. And that's what I needed to know.

Thank you!

As I was reading this all I could think of are those problems what start out with....if a train is going 100mph makes three five minutes stops when will it get to CA and when will the passengers eat lunch?

Have the feeling you know what I mean.

You would think I would be good at these things since I work in the accounting dept with both payables and receivables. Probably figured crazy things out like this but I think it's the way it's presented. If that made any sense at all.

That is awesome!

I believe the water level would rise a little over 3 inches, because our heros would displace 44 gallons of water. That's assuming your tank is about 67 inches deep, which is my guess based on the 82"x82".
